Covid-19 updates for opening Andaman tourism on 21st April 2021


Andaman & Nicobar Islands administration has imposed new restrictions for a period of 4 weeks starting from 22nd April 2021 on light & sound show, public gathering, and such other activities. 

You are compulsory to have a negative RT-PCR report along with and apart from this, you need to undergo mandatory RAT (Rapid Antigen Test) on arrival at veer savarkar airport. Covid-19 tests will be conducted at nearby government hospitals depending on the airline and airport authorities you are travelling with. 

The Andaman & Nicobar administration have made it compulsory for all passengers to bring a negative RT-PCR report. The valid RT-PCR tests are made by authorized ICMR laboratories to avoid inconvenience on arrival at Port Blair airport. The Andaman and Nicobar administration has the power to transport you back, if a negative RT-PCR report is not carried along with. 


Important points from tourists point of view amid Covid-19 pandemic


The negative RT-PCR report is valid for a period of 48 hours. Plan your journey to Andaman and make sure the report is valid after reaching Port Blair.

No institutional or home quarantine is compulsory for passengers to test negative through RT-PCR report from a recognized ICMR lab.

Tourists travelling between Havelock and Neil Island are not required to have a test again, however symptoms develop, passengers have to report immediately to the nearest PHC/CHC and thereafter necessary testing will be done on doctor’s advice.

Travelling to North and middle Andaman Islands, Nicobar group of Islands and little Andaman is restricted till further notice.

In case tourists test positive after arrival, they will have to go for institutional quarantine as per health protocols and have to incur isolation costs as prescribed by the Andaman authorities. 

If patients are willing for hotel quarantine (the hotel management has to make necessary arrangements for their quarantine), they can stay on completion of the following points.


  • Patients are under 60 years of age and not symptomatic
  • An undertaking for self isolation is provided by patients in written
  • If allowed by doctors


Points to remember


  • The beaches of Andaman are open till 10 AM to 5 PM
  • Maintain a two meters of distance from each other in public places. 
  • Light and sound shows at designated places will be operational at 50% capacity to maintain social distancing.
  • While booking hotels and activities, ask for cancellation policy to be aware and prepared
