About Turtle Beach Reef


The Turtle Beach dive site is located 15 kilometers away from Beach-03, Govind nagar training point, located southwest of Havelock Island. The reef of Turtle Beach is lying close to the shoreline which inherent incredible marine life. The reef is known for its staghorn corals, fan corals, table corals, cauliflower corals, and colorful species of fishlife. The top part of the reefs lies in 2-3 meters while the deepest point drops to 26 meters on the sandy bottom. Turtle Beach offers a 200 meters wide reef area at a depth of 2-3 meters ideal for snorkelling activities too.


Who can scuba dive at Turtle Beach?


The geographical location of Turtle Beach make it a perfect spot for both beginners or certified divers to explore magnificent marine life. Beginner scuba diver can dive up to 12 meters deep while certified divers can explore the reef up to 26 meters based on certification levels. The calm sea conditions with minimum underwater currents keep clear waters of the reef with a 15-20 meters visibility.

  1. Shallow water training for scuba dive


The scuba diving Journey to Turtle Beach starts from Govind Nagar beach. First of all, you will be provided a 40 minutes long shallow water training session for scuba diving to make you fully confident and comfortable for the actual dive. During the practice session you get to learn basic scuba diving skills and to practice them thoroughly to get used to it. 


The following scuba skills are crucial during practice session


  1. How to breathe through scuba equipment?

  2. How to equalise ear pressure underwater?

  3. How to release water from half-full flooded diving mask underwater?

  4. Learn different underwater hand signals to communicate with your buddy during actual dive. 


Note: The scuba dive training session is must for beginner scuba divers only.


   2. Boat ride to Turtle Beach


Once the training process is done, it’s time to depart to the Turtle Beach dive site via speed boat. The dive site is 15 kms away from training point and the speed boat takes 30-35 minutes one way to reach there. During the boat ride, you get to see magnificent views Havelock and nearby Islands and unique landscapes. 


3. Actual scuba dive at Turtle Beach


On arrival at Turtle Beach, the first step of scuba diving is the backroll entry. Backroll entry is the thrilling process of letting the divers enter from the boat into the water. In the process, the scuba diver sits on the edge of the boat with all dive equipment put on and back flips into the water.  


Once backroll entry is done, it’s time to dive in the real adventure. Beginner scuba divers are assisted by personal dive instructors while certified divers lead by a dive buddy underwater. Dive Instructors and dive buddies take scuba divers to different parts of the reef to let them explore splendid marine life and capture their lifelong memories in camera. Turtle Beach offers a memorable yet thrilling experinence while scuba diving in Havelock Island.
